About AlphaPatriot

In real life, AlphaPatriot is Darrell Carden.

The views presented on this site in no way reflects those of my employer, family, friends, acquaintances or distant cousins as these generally fall into three categories: the smart ones that agree with me, those that tolerate me because of my wit, charm, great intellect and modesty, and those who think that I'm a raving wingnut who's one Kennedy away from going medieval on the next vegan moonbat that barks.

Time Mag Names Powerline "Blog of the Year"

In a sign of the increasingly important role the power bloggers are having in shaping world politics, Time magazine takes note. The story is subscription-only, but the Command Post has this quote (hat tip to Outside the Beltway):
"Before this year, blogs were a curiosity, a cult phenomenon, a faintly embarrassing hobby on the order of ham radio and stamp collecting. But in 2004, blogs unexpectedly vaulted into the pantheon of major media, alongside TV, radio and, yes, magazines, and it was Power Line, more than any other blog, that got them there," writes TIME's Lev Grossman.
Interesting that a journalist would describe amateur journalism as "embarrassing". Perhaps Grossman used to get beaten up on the way to class by the tough kids from the Math Club.

Meanwhile, Valerie over at e-Nough finds that Time lists 10 Things We Learned About Blogs. Funny enough, e-Nough picks out this one:

Most Bloggers Are Women
Men may have taken the lead in the early (read: geeky) days of blogging, but that's not the case now. According to a survey of more than 4 million blogs by Perseus Development, 56% were created by women. More bad news for the boys: men are more likely than women to abandon their blog once it's created. Call blogging a 21st century room of one's own.
I'll go a step futher. I find that as a rule I read men bloggers for news and commentary and women bloggers for creative and insightful posts.

The coffee blasted edition of the 80 second challenge returns. While typing this and sipping some coffee I had to cough. Coffee and coughing don't mix as my monitor and keyboard will attest. There's sure to be something you've missed... [Read More]
