Fred Thompson: Clear Vision in Clear Terms
Soon to be candidate Fred Thompson [hope, hope, pray, pray!] authors a Reaganesque column about The Pirates of Tehran. Thompson clearly recognizes the danger that we face and what this moment in history means to Iraq, the region and, in the end, the world:
If we retreat precipitously, the price for that betrayal will be paid first in blood and freedom by the Iranian people, the Kurds, the Afghanis, the secular Lebanese, the moderates in Pakistan and the Iraqis themselves. And America’s word may never be trusted again.
It is refreshing to hear someone that is able to verbalize why Iraq matters. I am not alone.
Daily Pundit is waiting for Fred::
If we can keep a 100k there until Bush leaves office, it will be a triumph. Why? Because that is a large enough number to keep over the huge bases we have already built there, and to prevent an open takeover of Iraq by the Iranian surrogate Mahdi Militia. Also, this will be enough of a nucleus for a fast expansion, if necessary, which will preserve all options in the region for Fred Thompson when he takes office in 2009 as a true leader unencumbered by blackmail from the Saudis and others, as I fear is Bush’s situation now.
Cold Fury writes of Hope and Despair:
I see Fred Thompson as our best chance to regain our bearings in this war against the evil of Islamic jihad, and it gives me hope to see the many comments urging him to enter the Republican primary. ... There’s even some chance that he could persuade both parties to re-assume their responsibilities to their nation and focus on defeating our enemies instead of each other. ... A Hillabama presidency, however, harkens a future of American defeatism and appeasement too terrifying to contemplate.
Please, Mr. Thompson, for the sake of the nation we know you love - run, Fred. Run!
Outside the Beltway also notices that Fred Thompson's words are already creating a huge buzz on the right of the blogosphere. However, he is unsatisfied as Thompson's plain talk lacks any mention of a concrete policy:
I realize that it’s still over a year and a half until the election and that Thompson isn’t even officially exploring his candidacy yet. Still, it’s impressive to get this much buzz out of a column that says so little. Red meat without any actual meat, as it were.
We'll see. Ed Morrissey believes that it is no accident that Fred Thompson wrote about this particular topic on a blog, and that this is only the beginning:
Read all of Thompson's post, and ask yourself this: could he have picked a better way to enter the race, as far as the conservative blogosphere is concerned? If Thompson really still had not made the decision to throw his hat in the ring, he would not bother posting at Redstate. It's not a one-off by a Hollywood star, because Redstate is not the Huffington Post. This is a clear indication that he has heard the calls from conservatives and will shortly start working on an exploratory committee.
Watch for more Thompson missives in the next few weeks, and I predict that they will start hitting the broad spectrum of conservative issues: Iraq, taxes, reducing government, and abortion. If we start seeing a variety of essays like that, Fred's running.

A few weeks ago Fred Thompson was calling for the legalization of illegal immigrants who are already here. This was on FOXNews Sunday. So this "conservative" starts his campaign by snubbing the views of core conservatives, by abetting those who are breaking numerous American laws, by working to undermine "law and order." Is there any candidate who will "faithfully execute" the laws of the United States?!

FDT is the absolute hope for this country, any conservative that doesn't see that is pipe dreaming. FDT gets it on immigration, the war on terror, Domestic Policy, International policy, the Economy. I'm not here to sway you just do the research yourself and there is not a doubt in my mind that if you are a true conservative you will find that Fred Dalton Thompson is the ONLY Chioce for POTUS!
