Catching Up on Fred

Sam Waterston, Fred Thompson's co-star, thinks Fred is going to run for president.

An example of Fred Thompson's incredibly clear thinking on the Second Amendment:

The statistics are clear. Communities that recognize and grant Second Amendment rights to responsible adults have a significantly lower incidence of violent crime than those that do not. More to the point, incarcerated criminals tell criminologists that they consider local gun laws when they decide what sort of crime they will commit, and where they will do so.

This week, Fred takes Virginia Tech authorities to task for not notifying those on campus that a killer was on the loose, opting to make decisions for the students and faculty rather than giving them the information necessary to make a decision for themselves:

At the very least, everyone should have known that a double homicide had taken place and that the killer’s whereabouts were unknown, so that every individual could have decided what was the appropriate response to that kind of danger. There are various technologies that could have been used to get that information out, from mass e-mails and automated phone calls to instant messaging.

That one I just don't get. There are a lot of conservatives who would welcome a return to the days of wholesome characters like Gary Cooper, although personally I'll take Friends over Leave It to Beaver any day.
