Climategate Program Code Analyzed

American Thinker's Mark Sheppard has gone through folders and sub-folders of IDL and FORTRAN source code released in the ClimateGate leak (my favorite is the "fudge factor" comment a programmer makes). Near the end of his article, Sheppard declares (emphasis added):
But here’s what’s undeniable: If a divergence exists between measured temperatures and those derived from dendrochronological data after (circa) 1960 then discarding only the post-1960 figures is disingenuous to say the least. The very existence of a divergence betrays a potential serious flaw in the process by which temperatures are reconstructed from tree-ring density.  If it’s bogus beyond a set threshold, then any honest men of science would instinctively question its integrity prior to that boundary.  And only the lowliest would apply a hack in order to produce a desired result.

And to do so without declaring as such in a footnote on every chart in every report in every study in every book in every classroom on every website that such a corrupt process is relied upon is not just a crime against science, it’s a crime against mankind.
Exactly.

"Hope is Fading Fast"

Even the incredibly left-wing, terrorist-loving, granola-chomping propagandist over at FreshJive is losing faith, as evidenced by the release of this tee-shirt:

It is, appropriately enough, being released on Black Friday. Oooh, the Left is plunging in black despair and depression! Who could have seen that coming?

Republicans Positioned for 2010 Takeback?

The latest Gallup poll suggests that the Republican victories in New Jersey and Virginia gubernatorial races are indicators of the future rather than one-offs, as Democrats claim.

Money quote:
Roughly a year before the 2010 midterm elections, Republicans seem well-positioned to win back some of their congressional losses in 2006 and 2008. Independents are increasingly coming to prefer the Republican candidate for Congress, and now favor the GOP by 22 points. Political conditions could still shift between now and Election Day to create a more favorable environment for Democratic candidates, but a Republican lead on the generic ballot among registered voters has been a sign of a strong Republican showing at the polls in the coming election.
Now if only we could get a poll that suggests that Republicans and Independents were turning to conservatives.

Hat tip to Noel Sheppard, who wonders How Will Media Report GOP Beating Democrats in New Gallup Poll?

FedEx Against the Big 3

FedEx is in a fight for its very existence, but it is battling millions in union money, the UPS and the federal government.

This is misuse of political power in its basest form. Read Ed Morrissey's post on the subject.

ObamaCare "Worst Bill Ever"

So says the WSJ. Here are some choice quotes:
  • Epic new spending and taxes, pricier insurance, rationed care, dishonest accounting: The Pelosi health bill has it all.
  • [Pelosi's healthcare bill] may well be the worst piece of post-New Deal legislation ever introduced.
  • The result will be destructive on every level—for the health-care system, for the country's fiscal condition, and ultimately for American freedom and prosperity.
  • ObamaCare will be lucky to cost under $2 trillion over 10 years; it will grow more after that.
  • Even if Congress had confiscated 100% of the taxable income of people earning over $500,000 in the boom year of 2006, it would have only raised $1.3 trillion. When Democrats end up soaking the middle class, perhaps via the European-style value-added tax that Mrs. Pelosi has endorsed, they'll claim the deficits that they created made them do it.
  • While the U.S. already has one of the highest corporate income tax rates in the world, Democrats are on the way to creating a high structural unemployment rate, much as Europe has done by expanding its welfare states.
There is, of course, much more. Read it all. Then let your political servants know that you will not support anyone who endorses the bankrupting of America, no matter how good the intention.

Hat tip to Noel Sheppard.

Headline of the Day: Ben Bernanke Is A Walking Economic Fallacy

Forbes proclaims that Ben Bernanke Is A Walking Economic Fallacy, and more specifically, that the Fed chairman has no idea what he's talking about:
From his frequent assertions that economic growth is the cause of inflation, to his support of spending "stimulus" as though wealth redistribution actually drives economic activity, to his belief that simple money creation enhances the economy, it's fair to say that the world's most powerful central banker buys into a quite a few of these fallacies. Historians will write volumes on former President George W. Bush's biggest mistakes in office, and while the left and right will have plenty to work with, it's likely that for some at least, Bush's appointment of Bernanke will loom large.
Disturbing read, but one you should do.
